Objectives

By the end of this course students will be able to write a detailed description of various types of graph, chart or table. The student will learn the vocabulary, grammar and essay writing skills to produce an essay of around 150 words. Students will learn how to interpret information presented graphically and to put their interpretations in to structurally and lexically accurate sentences and then to build these sentences into a well-structured, coherent and cohesive essay. Students will learn how to write introductions and main body paragraphs.

Try some of the IELTS questions on the IELTS writing assessment and submit them to be marked by an experienced IELTS tutor.

Prerequisites

This course is designed for students wishing to gain access to universities where English is the language of instruction. Universities generally require applicants to have an IELTS score of at least 6.5, and so this course is designed to help you to attain at least 6.5 Therefore, students taking this course are advised that they have a level of at least 5.5 before taking this course. If your current IELTS level is lower than 5.5, this course might be too difficult and you may not achieve at least 6.5 by the end.

What types of diagrams you will see in the exam
How to understand and interpret a graph, chart or a table
What vocabulary and grammar you need to know, and how to use it
How to structure your sentences
How to write essay introductions
How to write main essay paragraphs

You will also be given a number of essay questions as self-study, so that you can have a good amount of practice of what you have learned.

I also have two levels of IELTS speaking exam courses almost ready. Regarding your question about IELTS writing part 2, me and one of my fellow academic English professors developing this course. As you will understand, IELTS part 2 is a much more difficult task so we are putting in extra effort to ensure the course covers everything you need to achieve a good score. Hi Gihan I'm sorry that you haven't achieved the scores you need, even though your scores are generally good. One problem is that you might not have identified your particular problems. It often happens that students don't improve their score quickly enough. If you don't identify your particular problems, then you might be practising somethign you can already do well. You've got to work on your weaknesses. This is why it is difficult for me to give you clear advice. In order to help you, I would like to see some of your writing. If you answer some questions on UKgate I canmark them for you and tell you your problems. For the reading it is much more difficult unless I see some examples of your reading tests. I can advise you generally to find a book which deals with strategies for answering different IELTS questions. Search on Amazon for 'IELTS strategies'. You said you had a private teacher. This is the best way to identify your weaknesses and a good private teacher will be able to give you lessons to turn these weaknesses into strengths. If you were my private student I would make sure your weaknesses were improved. Unfortunately, though, unless I see examples of your work there is no more specific information I can give you. I am happy to look at your word if you submit them through UKgate. I hope this helps a litte. Take care Pip

If anyone is having problems please email support@ukgate.com or visit the FAQ pages. Maybe one reason you cannot see the DRM folder is that you need to set the folder options to 'show hidden files'.
