Today I was reminded about how much worse my brain is now than it was when I was a young boy. Nowadays when I watch a film or hear a piece of music I can't remember it for very long. About a week later when I watch the film again I can't remember very much of it.
Today I was watching a repeat of a very old TV programme which I used to watch when I was a boy in 1983. As I was watching it I realised that, even though I had only seen each episode once, I remembered almost every piece of action, all of the music and even a lot of the lines tha tthe actors were saying. However, if I watch something now, I'll forget it in no time at all.
This is also true when learning languages. My daughter is 2 and a half years old and I am trying to teach her soem Italian and Frenchg words. She remembers them so easily. When I try to learn a few words of a new language I forget them very quickly.
I really admire all the students on this site who are working hard at learning English. Now I am getting older and losing my brain cells, I always forget simple words. Now I am more determined to study a new language. As an adult we need to focus hard on how we learn (our natural learning styles) and to apply these learning styles to how we study language. By doing this we can learn new things efficiently and can hope to be more successful.
Any suggestions on which language I should try?
